Riding from Montcombroux to Millau (part 2)
After we left Le Puy en Velay, our next stop was in Pradelles. It was
half past two PM and time for coffee.
Coffee stop in Pradelles
We are very lucky because in spite of the weather report on TV, we had no
rain. We did see showers in the distance and dark clouds but no rain on
At half past three PM we have a pitstop at a Total gasstaion at
Chateauneuf de Randon to refuel. (8,85 liter on 253,8 km. Almost 29
km on a liter !)
We tried to stay of the freeways but Robert, who is leading now, has an
older Garmin so we end up on the freeway to Millau. In this case it is no
problem because it is time to find a hotel before it does start raining.
Rain clouds in the distance
Close to Millau, we left the freeway and then we saw another nice castle
on a hill.

Finaly we arrived in Millau. In the distance we see the bridge but is very
cloudy so it is hard to see from the distance. Then we stop at a hotel,
just outside the center of Millau. Janny checked the prices but it is to
expensive so we continue into the ccenter of Millau.
We passed through the center and from a bridge just outside Millau we had
a nice view on the "Viaduc de Millau" that we came here for.
Finaly, the "Viaduc de Millau".
On the other side of the bridge over the Tarn we had a view on a waterfall
and the houses of Millau.

While we were looking at the "Viaduc de Millau", the light rain changed
into a thunderstorm so it was time to find a hotel. We went back to the
center and then Robert saw a sign outside a hotel with interesting prices.
Janny went inside and found they had rooms available so we booked two
rooms in this hotel, right in the center of Millau.

We parked and locked the bikes and went to our rooms with our luggage,
changed motorcycling clothes for some lighter clothes and then we went
The narrow old streets of Millau
Because of the rain, the sidewalks and streets are verry slippery so
I am glad we made it to Millau before the rain really started. I don't
like riding my bike on slippery roads.
Millau is a very old city and it hs some nice alleys and narrow streets
with cobblestones or paving stones.

First we had a drink outside a restaurant on the square where the
hotel was en then we went to another restaurant for a very nice dinner
with chicken and French fries, a nice glass of wine and then fromage frais
with fruit juice as dessert.
We walked back to the hotel and I noticed that the beautiful Harley
Davidson that was parked in front of the hotel, next to our bikes
has no chain or other lock !
I guess this is a safe environment so my BMW, locked to a pole with
a chain, will be safe here.
Nice Harley Davidson
From my room I had a very nice view on the square with the city lights
reflecting in the wet pavement.
The view from my hotelroom
I had a very big room. It was a room for three persons but I got it
for the price of a single room. It also had a big bathtub so I took a nice
long warm bath before I went to bed.
